Sydney, Australia, January 22, 2008 - ShoreTel, Inc., (NASDAQ: SHOR), a leading provider of Pure IP Unified Communications (UC) solutions, today announced that Christian child development ministry, Compassion Australia, has rolled out ShoreTel's leading edge UC system to 110 employees at its Newcastle head office, as well as to 20 staff at its offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Maroochydore, and Perth.
Compassion works with local churches to provide resources, training and expertise to foster the development of the poorest children in more than 25 developing countries around the world in Africa, Asia, Central and South America.
The deployed ShoreTel UC system is comprised of 90 ShorePhone® IP 230 and IP 560 telephones. It replaced a problematic IP PBX system that lacked the flexibility and reliability needed for Compassion Australia's child assistance programs. The ShoreTel system saves Compassion AU$18,000 annually in maintenance as well as the costs of moves, adds, and changes (MAC).
The easy-to-use and easy-to-maintain ShoreTel UC solution allows Compassion Australia to increase productivity and mobility for its paid employees and hundreds of dedicated advocates. ShoreTel's single image UC system also allows Compassion Australia to add-on additional users - up to 10,000 on a single system - at little additional cost and with minimal handling.
In the search for a more reliable and stable UC solution, staff at Compassion Australia evaluated systems from Cisco, Avaya and Mitel. However, with the help of IT services and solutions specialists, Davicom, the evaluation team selected a ShoreTel UC solution. The ShoreTel UC system provides a lower total cost of ownership and delivers exceptional reliability and stability - key criteria for Compassion Australia, which requires a highly resilient communications system for its supporters and advocates which number more than 60,000 nationally.
"To start with, we are now paying 60 percent less in annual maintenance expenses than with the previous system," said Michael Macarthur, IT manager for Compassion Australia. "We also incur much lower costs when adding users to the system as most of the work is pretty much plug and play, which our staff can easily do."
Unlike Compassion Australia's previous IP PBX system, which incurred unanticipated fees to scale and an increasing amount of non-budgeted day-to-day operating expenses for tasks like adding features and expanding options, the ShoreTel UC system scales quickly and cost-effectively.
"The ShoreTel solution does what you want it to do," Mr Macarthur added. "After four months of deployment, our help desk has reported no significant issues - a huge improvement on our previous system. ShoreTel designed the right foundation to start with and then built a fantastic set of features on their platform. It's rock solid and it works. And most importantly, it gives us peace of mind."
Staff and volunteers at Compassion Australia are particularly excited about ShoreTel's intuitive features, which include the ability to answer and transfer calls wherever they are located. Everyone on the system is using ShoreWare® Personal Call Manager to forward their voicemail to email, and consolidate all messages for the most convenient and efficient access, Mr Macarthur said.
ShoreTel has introduced a variety of UC capabilities into its solution that combines flexibility, manageability and usability, explained Tony Warhurst, ShoreTel Managing Director for SE Asia.
"The ShoreTel platform offers attractive price points for all sizes of businesses and provides the ease of use and management that keep users in touch," he said. "ShoreTel provides unique technology architecture featuring a single hardware and software platform that spans all levels of key system and PBX functionality and addresses the needs of organisations with 10 to tens of thousands of employees."
ShoreTel's primary distributors in Australia are Aria Technologies and WhiteGold Distribution, and in New Zealand, Connector Systems.
